A Second Look

Finding life, the universe, and fangirling

Rinslet WalkerLet me tell you a little bed time story, this is the story of Danie, just your average Queen of the Nerds. Of course, it wasn’t always that way. There was once a time, well before comic book conventions, well before I could quote every episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and even before my eccentric (and large collection of metal lunch boxes), that I was simply an nine year old girl. Then came the phone call from my best friend Ivy asking me if I wanted to go the Xena/ Hercules Convention taking place that weekend. Of course, I did. Who wouldn’t? So, we along with another friend loaded up in her mother’s mini-van and got our first real fangirl experience (that sounds way naughtier than it should. Again I was nine). The importance of this story? Somehow, in a couple of hours Ivy had managed to scrounge together a costume of Gabrielle that was good enough to win her the youth costume contest and we went home with some pretty sweet swag. Most of which still hold reverence in our collections. It was at this point where I discovered, “hey costuming is awesome.” However, I am ashamed to admit that despite being a fangirl for the past fifteen years I have never walked the costumers line. It is crazy to think that there is an avenue of fandom I haven’t experience. However, I just never felt confident in my sewing skills, but all that is about to change. I am about to go Cosplay on the world so PhoenixComicon better be prepared. This year I have decided to unleash my inner anime/superhero. I will admit though I am a little nervous. I have been reviewing all of my favorite characters in an attempt to discover an anime costume I won’t look utterly ridiculous wearing.  So, the list has been narrowed to the following:

  • - Faye Valentine (Cowboy Bebop)
  • - Kaname Chidori (Full Metal Panic)
  • - Asuka Langley Soyru (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
  • - Rinslet Walker (Black Cat)

Right now I am in love with the idea of all four, however I am leaning more towards Rinslet because I feel we harbor similar personalities so it really isn’t too much of a stretch. For my scifi costume my heart belongs to the first great love of my life wielder of the Witchblade Sara Pezzini. It is Witchblade that got me into comics and for that I will always have great love. Wish me luck, all you avid Cosplayers any suggestions?

Also my friend Aurauz forwarded me a casting call for a cosplay dating show, its nice to know if I break up with my boyfriend I have options. However, I will spread the love for my cosplayer players:

Welcome To A Second Look

January 8, 2010 General Comments

Welcome to A Second Look, the personal blog of Danie, fangirl and filmmaker extraordinaire. Of course, by extraordinaire perhaps there is more of an emphasis on the “ordinaire” part as in ordinary. Here at A Second Look, I will be posting about my life, my studies, and the latest events I am involved in.
