Firefox over Internet Explorer

Now don't get me wrong. I still use Internet Explorer EVERYDAY! I'm just so used to it, I work with it and I code with it HOWEVER in recent times I have seen how much better FIREFOX really is in comparison. I'm going to outline a list of why you should switch... or use both! 10 reasons why FireFox is superior!

  1. Firefox is an opensource program. MEANING in brief that programmers can use firefox to find holes and vaulnrabilities and fix BEFORE a release is made. IE is more heavily guarded.
  2. IE holds up to 70% of the market (decreasing dramatically), due to this hackers and annoying people exploit these vaulnrabilities. Why develop something to hurt the minority when they can take down the majority. Same goes for Apple Macs - These are owned by a much smaller percentage and hence RARELY get viruses, they are EXTREAMLY safe!
  3. IE due to its weaknesses is partial to keyloggers. These steal your passwords. Spyware also jumps in and takes hold. NEVER DO YOUR NET BANKING IN IE!!!. If you listen to one thing in this list its that! See all those people on the current affairs programs saying how bad netbanking is and all there money is gone? THEY USED IE!
  4. Tabbed browsing and intergrated searching was first developed by FireFox. Innovators!
  5. The download manager is fantastic. It shows all your downloads in one nice window instead of a million little windows in your task bar!
  6. If FireFox crashes (RARE), unlike IE, you have the ability to restore your session and bring back all your windows... GENIUS!
  7. FireFox does updates a few times a year on the browser. It downloads automatically and just asks for a restart of the browser when ready. This fixes any security issues. IE is very slow with this and has to be down through Windows Update.
  8. Website DO load faster in FireFox. It renders the content in a different order hence making it faster.
  9. On the topic of RENDERING - FireFox follows the W3C guidelines for web development. Ever wondered why in IE and FireFox you see tables or divs etc differently? IE was made a LONG time ago and followed their own guidelines for interpretting html, css, xhtml ect. They were very relaxed about the way they interpreted tags and as a result it makes you pull out your hair trying to code both browsers the same. If it works in FireFox it will work in IE. If it works in IE it wont work in FireFox. Do yourself a favour and test all your coding in FireFox and code the CORRECT way!
  10. Extentions - There are a lot of plugins and downloads you can get for FireFox, including themes! Its much more fun! It may take time to get used to, but it definatly wins out in the end!

Ok, I think I have been sufficiently annoying in proving my point. By all means, keep IE, I have, I'm using it now infact, but when coding, doing net banking, downloading, use FireFox. Your PC will be thankful!
